Getting into Astronomy + Choosing a Telescope
The Southern Vermont Astronomy Group will be holding its monthly meeting
and Public Presentation at its regular time of 7PM, on Tuesday evening the
14th of October, but this month they will be meeting at
Baba-À-Louis Bakery/Phoenix Café in Chester, Vermont.
Discussed will be what those in the field feel is an optimal way to get
involved in astronomy, how binoculars and telescopes work, what you can do
with them, whether you should buy anything, build a scope, or wait, and
how to determine whats best for your needs and how to find deals on these
items when you're ready to buy.
Actual telescopes will be set up at the presentation, with demonstrations
of how they work. If the skies cooperate afterwards, attendees will be
able to view through the telescopes at celestial objects.
Hungry attendees are welcome to dine at The Phoenix Café before the
presentation. They will be serving a casual dinner starting at 5 pm. The
menu will include homemade soups, assorted salads, hot or cold sandwiches
made on freshly baked Baba-À-Louis breads, quiche, baked pastas and
pizza. Indoor seating is limited so reservations are recommended. Take
out will be available for those who choose to dine under the skies (Don't
forget your blanket!). Call ahead to reserve your seat or to place an
order for pick-up at 875-1133.
This presentation will be held rain or (star)-shine.
The Southern Vermont Astronomy Group (SoVerA) is an organization composed
of amateur and professional astronomers, educators, students and members
of the lay public. SoVerA is dedicated to making astronomy much more
accessible to all. Talks and presentations are free and open to the
