Event

2008 January 8, Tuesday, 7:00pm — Whiting Library, Chester, Vermont (presentation by Claudio Véliz on Supernovas)

Supernovas 'R' Us

SoVerA President Claudio Véliz will discuss the circumstances leading up to a supernova detonation, the largest explosions known to occur in the universe. A brief review of star creation and evolution will be followed by a description of the internal dynamics of supernovas, how these objects become so potent and what might happen to all of us if one goes off nearby.

The talk will be for general audiences and will include striking new images and video of super computer models of these extraordinary events.
